Mr Gerard Kervick
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Clinical Director

Gerard Kervick trained in Belfast and has worked in Belfast, Northern Ireland and North America.  He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

He has extensive experience in phacoemulsification small incision cataract microsurgery with folding intraocular lenses, as well as Excimer laser refractive surgery.  As one of the first surgeons in the UK to perform Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) in 1992, he has considerable clinical and investigational experience with laser refractive surgery.  He has been performing LASIK since January 1998 and is involved in training other surgeons in the procedure.

He was appointed as a Consultant in 1991 and is currently a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based at the Mater Hospital, Belfast.

Mr Brendan Lacey
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon
MB FRCOphth


Brendan Lacey trained in Belfast and has worked in Belfast, Northern Ireland and Canada.  He is currently Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Mater Hospital in Belfast.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and has extensive experience in phacoemulsification small incision microsurgery with foldable intraocular lenses.  During his year in Vancouver, Canada, Mr Lacey gained his Fellowship training in Oculoplastic Orbital surgery.

He has trained in LASIK and Excimer laser surgery and is a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Miss Sarah Wilson
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon
MB MRCOphth

Sarah qualified in medicine at The Queen’s University, Belfast and trained in ophthalmology in Belfast, N. Ireland.
She has also worked in Dublin, Ireland and Philadelphia, USA gaining fellowship training in Glaucoma.

She is a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a member of the UK and Eire Glaucoma Society. Sarah has extensive experience in phacoemulsification small incision cataract surgery with foldable intraocular lenses and glaucoma procedures. She also has a special interest in ocular dermatology and minor oculoplastic procedures.

Dr Olivia Earley
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon
MD FRCOphth

Dr Earley graduated in medicine from the National University in Ireland in 1980. She completed Ophthalmic training in London, Belfast and America. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in the UK. She gained a fellowship in Vitreoretinal surgery at Duke University, North Carolina and St Thomas’ Hospital London in 1990.

She was also awarded a MD from Queens University Belfast in 1991. Now she currently enjoys working as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in the Mater and Downe Hospitals. She successfully led her team to the UK Finalists of Hospital Doctors Award in 1999.
Her special interests include Cataracts. She specialises in Cataract and Vitreoretinal Disorders including Diabetic Retinopathy and Macular Degeneration.

Gawn

Mr Gawn McIlwaine
MB BCh BAO FRCOphth
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon


Gawn McIlwaine worked as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for 10 years and returned to Belfast in 2005 where he currently works as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Mater Hospital in Belfast. 

He qualified in medicine at the Queens Universtity, Belfast.  He has trained in Glasgow, Toronto and London.  He has extensive experience in small incision phaco cataract and implant surgery. 

He gained his clinical Fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology at the Sick Children’s Hospital in Toronto and in Neuro-ophthalmology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurological Diseases in London.  He undertook his sabbatical in Neuro-ophthalmology at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Mr James O'Reilly
Consultant Eye Surgeon
FRCOphth

James O'Reilly graduated in Medicine from UCD in 1992 and commenced training
in Ophthalmic Surgery in Ireland. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College
of Ophthalmologists (London) in 1996 and the Diploma of the European Board of
Ophthalmology in 1997.

After completion of Higher Surgical Training in 2001, he was included by the Medical Council in the Registrar of Medical Specialists. Mr O'Reilly subspecialised in Corneal Transplantation and Laser Refractive Surgery at the renowned Corneoplastic Unit at East Grinstead in the UK. This was the site of the first Eye Bank in the UK and is one of the foremost institutions in the field of corneal transplantation and refractive surgery. Mr O'Reilly is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He has published articles in peer reviewed journals and presented at numerous scientific meetings.

Mr Behrooz Golchin
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon

Behrooz Golchin qualified in medicine at Trinity College, Dublin and trained in ophthalmology in Belfast, Northern Ireland and London.  He also spent one year in Sydney, Australia, gaining fellowship training in cornea and anterior segment and refractive surgery.

Mr Golchin is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and has extensive experience in phacoemulsification small incision cataract surgery with foldable intraocular lenses and corneal transplant.  He has trained in LASIK and Excimer laser laser surgery and is a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
